Applying Textures

I was very fortunate to find Ms. Kim Klassen online about a year ago.  She is a very talented lady who is extremely generous with her knowledge and her textures.  I absolutely LOVE applying textures to photos and Kim has a ton of textures and "recipes" for applying them.  She can be found at http://www.kimklassencafe.com/.  Stop by for a visit sometime!

I took this shot of the rose of sharon bush out front today.  The original shot is nice but to me it was lacking something.  I was going for an antique kind of look on this one.

To accomplish this I made the following adjustments:

1.  Duplicated the background layer
2.  A levels adjustment layer with the bottom left output level set at 26
3.  Added a black and white gradient map adjustment with the blending mode on normal and opacity at 48%
4.  Added the "cinnamon" texture layer on soft light blend mode at 100% opacity
5.  A levels adjustment layer with the settings of 28, 1 and 255, set to 46% opacity

On this one I was going for old and faded......which hopefully I accomplished!

These steps for this composition are:

1.  Duplicate background
2.  Black to white gradient map adjustment layer on normal blend mode at 44% opacity.  I also used a soft black brush at 50% opacity to brush a little more color back into the bud.
3.  Black to white gradient map adjustment layer on soft light mode at 100% opacity.
4.  A solid color fill layer with hex# faf3cd on soft light mode at 75% opacity.
5.  A slight curves adjustment with the center pulled up slightly.
6.  Kim's scripted edges magic texture on screen blend mode at 100% opacity.
7.  Magic 4 texture on screen blend mode at 100% opacity.

Thanks for visiting today and taking a look at how I accomplish texturized photos.  Have a wonderful weekend! Pin It
